Ladies and gentlemen

IWRN10 (10th International Workshop on Railway Noise) was held on 18-22 of October in Nagahama, first in Asia, and successfully completed.

The total number of participants was 147 from 15 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA. We greatly appreciate contribution of all participants.

IWRN10 held 11 sessions of oral presentation and 3 sessions of poster presentation classified into 7 categories: 1: Prospects, Legal regulations, Perception, 2: Wheel and Rail Noise, 3: Structural-borne Noise, Squeal Noise, 4: Ground-borne Vibration, 5: High Speed Trains, 6: Interior Noise, Sound Barrier and 7: Prediction, Measurements, Monitoring. The total numbers of oral presentations and poster presentations were 50 and 20 respectively. We also greatly appreciate speakers and those who joined in discussion.

Selected papers will be published in the dedicated issue "Noise and Vibration Mitigation for Rail Transportation Systems" of the Notes of Numerical Fluid Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Design (Springer) in summer of 2011.

We greatly appreciate companies’ sponsorship for IWRN10.

If you are interested in hosting IWRN11, please contact the International Committee (iwrn10@rtri.or.jp) by the end of 2010.

With best regards,

IWRN10 Secretariat

The IWRN is a unique international workshop that started in Derby, UK in 1976 specifically for the discussion of railway noise and vibration among world experts and practical engineers. Since then, it has grown into a gathering of over 100 experts in the field of railway noise and vibration. The last Workshop was held in Feldafing, Germany in 2007.

Continuing the tradition of previous IWRN's, this Workshop will provide a unique forum for researchers and experts in railway noise and vibration. Both the time schedule and the venue of the workshop intend to enhance vivid exchange of experience and viewpoints amongst the world's leading researchers and experts. There are no parallel sessions proposed for IWRN10, to allow comprehensive discussion of topics.

The Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI) is delighted at the chance to act as organizer of the 10th Workshop – the first to be held in Asia. The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of the Environment also support the Workshop.
