On January 21, 2016, RTRI signed Agreement for Technical Cooperation with the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA).

In 2014, in response to the request made by TRA, RTRI implemented technical cooperation in order to solve the problem of a failure in power supply systems. After that TRA proposed concluding an agreement on comprehensive technical cooperation between the two organizations. Since it is expected that, building a cooperative relationship with TRA will contribute to the overseas development of RTRI’s research activities and Japanese railways, RTRI accepted the proposal.

On January 21, 2016 Dr. Yung-Hui Chou, Director-General of TRA visited RTRI and Dr. Chou and Dr. Hideyuki Takai, Executive Director of RTRI, signed the agreement for technical cooperation. TRA is a rail operating division under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of Taiwan, an equivalent of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). The high-speed railways in Taiwan are operated by the Taiwan High Speed Rail, and it is not included in TRA’s responsibilities.

The outline of this technical cooperation is as follows:
・ Information sharing between both parties’ experts (including acceptance of visiting researchers)
・ Other forms of cooperation on which both parties agree
・ Exchange of periodicals of both organizations

Specific topics for the technical cooperation will be designated through discussions between both parties.
