Development of Digital ATC for High Speed and High Density Lines
Tetsuo TAKASHIGE, Ikuo WATANABE
The ATC system has been safely operating since the opening of Shinkansen. As
the exsting ATC transmits speed signals from the wayside to trains, trains
are not operated efficiently on the lines where trains are running various
masimum speeds or performances. Digital ATC transmits the distance between a
train and its preceding train, the train circuit number, etc., from the
wayside to tains, and safety speed to raun is calculated with those
information and data stored on-board, such as locations of track circuits,
gradients, curves and turnouts as well as limit speeds on these sections.
Digital ATC is applicable not only on Shinkansen lines but also on inter-city
or commuter ones. In this paper, we describe the concept of digital ATC and
power synchronous MSK to use the communication from the wayside to on-board.
Last, we describe the result of S/N characteristic of MSK on STAR21.
