Development of Trailable Electric Point Machine

Soon after provatization of JNR, head-on train collisions happened occasionally at interchange
stations. At such stations, there is a turnout installed in the overshoot protection area, which
is designed such that the route is opened for arriving train and home - signal remains red while
the train is stopping at the station to secure the overshoot margin. The driver of the opposing
train may mistakes the signal and runs into the track for the arriving train. Thus the train
collides head - on against arriving train. It is suggested that a trailable electric point
machine be introduced for main track. This report describes how to prevent the head - on collision,
mechanism of the trailable electric point machine, and it's performance and so on.
