Results of Microtremor Measurement at Damaged Piers

We (RTRI) developed a method to evaluate pier conditions by the components of microtremor in three directions measured at both ends of pier levee crown. This method extracts rocking vibrations from microtremors to effectively estimate the safety of piers, in particular, when they have been scoured. By this method, we examined conditions of existing piers damaged by large external force, and confined that rocking vibrations take place around horizontal cracks. In this paper, we report results of microtremor measurement at damaged piers.
