Development of Gauge Change Equipment

Hideyuki TAKAI, Kinai TAKAGI, Tadao OKAI

The "Gauge Change Equipment (GCE)" is a ground facility to be installed at the junction between two different gauge lines to change the gauge of "Gauge Change Train (GCT)". The gauge of GCT is changed when it passes the GCE at a speed of about 10km/h. Currently, the GCT is prototype that has A-type and B-type bogies with two different gauge changing mechanisms, to both of which the GCE is adaptable. The GCE was installed on the test line of Transportation Technology Center (TTC) in Pueblo, Colorado, U.S. and now is under an endurance test of 10,000 passes.
