A Study on Comprehensive Evaluation Method of Level Crossing Countermeasures

  As accidents at level crossing potentially lead to fatal accident, appropriate countermeasure are very important to ensure the safety of railways. Then we have analyzed the trend of accidents and factors, and developed an evaluation model for risk/effect of countermeasures. Furthermore, we have derived formulae to evaluate level crossing of different safety levels in quantitative and comprehensive terms, including the type 1 (with barrier and alarm device), type 3 (with alarm device), and type 4 (with only cross mark board). Based on the above analysis results, we have construct computer system for practical use to manage and unify level crossing information such as on evaluation/simulation results, accidents, and equipment attributes including motion pictures and other multimedia information on a PC.
