This paper outlines the present state and future subjects for track maintenance technologies on the subjects: (1) investigation to reduce rail defects, (2) prevention of the deterioration of ballast-tracks and development of maintenance-free solid-bed track structures and (3) evaluation methods for track conditions and effective maintenance work to ensure safety and high-level riding comfort.
