Fundamental Investigation of Low Emission Gas Pressure Welding

Ryu-ichi YAMAMOTO, Yasuto FUKDADA, Yoshihiro TERASHITA

Gas pressure welding is one of the solid phase welding methods. In Japan, considerable volumes of steel bars and rails are welded by this welding method. However, a large quantity of CO2 gas is generated in the welding process, because acetylene gas, which is a kind of hydrocarbon, is used as fuel gas. Consequently, an environmental load is brought by gas pressure welding. Moreover, caution is needed to treat acetylene gas to ensure safety in welding. Therefore, we promoted a study to establish low emission gas pressure welding system by using oxy-hydrogen gas. This paper describes the applicability of oxy-hydrogen gas to gas pressure welding.
