The aim of this study is to establish a strategy for the safety evaluation by exposure to complex magnetic fields (MFs) that found in our environment such as electric train system. In this study, we developed an exposure device that enables us to generate 50Hz, lmT MF under 5T static magnetic field for complex MFs exposures. Bacterial mutation assay (Ames test) and yeast mutation assay were selected for estimation of mutagenicity. Growth, gene expression analysis such as cDNA micro-array and differentiation were selected as biological indices to estimate cellular responses. A numerical analysis method of the induced current in human whole body was also developed. We indicate that integration of these different indices could provide a comprehensive safety estimation of MFs in environment fields.
