Bridge pier foundations occasionally become unstable due to scouring around piers under flood conditions. Operational restrictions imposed according to water level are practical to maintain safe train operation. However, upon determination of lifting of such restrictions, it is substantially difficult to verify the conditions of bridge pier foundation. Therefore, it is required to develop a practical method to evaluate quantitatively the structural integrity of bridge pier foundation under flood condition. This paper reports the results of analyses on the long-term measurements made on existing bridge piers and a method to define the natural frequencies of bridges measured with a micro-tremor.
