This paper focuses on the issue of the improvement of conventional railway freight station. Based on a case study analysis of the advantageous effects of changing station from conventional type to new one in which the loading & unloading operations can be directly handled on arrival & departure siding tracks, a mode-sharing model using stochastic distribution of freight time value has been developed. Next, the modal shift of freight by improving station facilities has been estimated. Finally, relevant environmental effectiveness such as reduction of CO2 emissions has been investigated.
