Testing Facilities

Rolling Stock Test Plant

Rolling stock test plant The rolling stock test plant simulates the conditions of tracks and running trains at a maximum speed of 500km/h. This enables tests under various conditions that cannot be reproduced on actual lines. It is also used for the investigation of the related effect and problems of the set track conditions.

Brake Test Stands

Brake test stands RTRI uses a brake performance test stand and a brake test stand to develop high performance brake systems. These machines allow tests at a maximum train speed of 500 km/h.

Large-scale Shaking Table

Construction of large-scale shaking table This is a large-scale two-dimensional vibration test machine to simulate earthquake motion at a seismic intensity in the order of 7, mounted with structure models under actual track and truck conditions. It has an excitation stroke of ±100 cm and a maximum load capacity of 50 tons. In addition, it is placed on a floating foundation to prevent vibration from propagating to nearby residential areas.

Station Simulator

This is a set of mimic station facilities to test passenger flows and thermal/acoustic environments related to the comfort of passengers (to simulate conditions difficult to reproduce at actual stations).

Large-scale Rainfall Simulator

Test soil tank The large-scale rainfall simulator reproduces the phenomenon of rainfall up to an hourly rate of 200 mm under conditions similar to actuality. The simulator is used to perform slope failure tests and evaluate the performance of various sensors in rain.

Ride Comfort Simulator

Appearance of the ride comfort simulator The comfort in passenger cars is affected by vibration, noise, temperature, view from windows and other environmental factors. To investigate the effect of these factors, the ride comfort simulator comprehensively simulates the environmental factors in and outside passenger cars.

Current Collection Testing Equipment

Current collection-testing equipment The current collection testing equipment that analyzes the characteristics of the overhead contact wire-pantograph system is composed of a 500 m-long track and a truck capable of running at a maximum speed of 200 km/h mounted with a real pantograph.

Large-scale Low-Noise Wind Tunnel

This wind tunnel provides the world high performance of low noise (75.6 dB at 300 km/h) and wind speed (max. 400 km/h). It serves the purpose of basic research and development of technologies aimed at aerodynamic noise reduction in high-speed operation, reduction of train air resistance and improvement of aerodynamic noise characteristics, etc.

Open tunnel (used mainly for aerodynamic noise tests)

Closed section (used mainly for aerodynamic drag tests)
