On the non-Shinkansen lines, contact wire wear is measured only 2 or 3 times per year
and a more frequent measurement of contact wire wear by commercial cars is desirable,
and on Shinkansen lines development of a small size measuring apparatus of contact wire
wear for electric inspection cars composed of 2 or 3 car is desirable. Therefore,
investigation and tests have been successfully executed to develop a solid laser measuring
apparatus on commercial cars operated at 300km/h.
