This paper deals with a study for the train operation control during rainfall in
terms of effective rainfall. The effective rainfall is one of the rainfall indices
for slope collapse considering antecedent rainfall. Based on analyses of cut slope
collapses on a model line of the railway, we confirm that the best half life of
effective rainfall to predict a cut slope collapse is 24 hours. And we make clear
the relationship between the critical volume of effective rainfall for disaster
outbreak and a disaster pass-up rate, and between the critical volume of effective
rainfall and the critical volume excess time.
