A lot of alternate load tests with the test pieces reflecting the real structures
have been performed mainly in the architectural research field in order to examine
the safety at the earthquake of concrete encased steel columns. As its application
to the civil engineering works increased, the experimental research with the test
pieces imitating the real structures has come to be carried out. However, the
research focusing on the ductility is still few. On the other hand, the loading
condition and material parameters of concrete encased steel columns adopted as
railway structures are different from the ones of building constructions. Then, the
alternate load test under the constant axial compressive force and bending moment
was performed by using the test pieces taken into consideration the parameters of
railway structures. This paper describes the loading capacity and ductility of
concrete encased steel columns.
