D The painting or plating processing is usually given to steel structures because of
dealing with the corrosion problem. The maintenance cost as repainting of exsisting
steel bridges is more and more in the increase. Therefore, non-painted weatherproof
steel material has come to be applied to steel railway bridges with the aim of reducing
the maintenance cost. However, notes in the use of this steel material about 5-10 years
passed after construction, the local investigation on the stability of grown rust was
carried out. The present guidance for design and construction of non-painted weatherproof
steel bridge was reviewed based on this investigation. This paper describes the outline
of above mentioned local investigation and the revised guidance.
