Wear Properties of Metal/Carbon Composite Pantograph Sliders for Conventional
Electric Vehicles

In recent electric railway, reduction of maintenance cost is strongly demanded.
In a contact-wire-pantograph system, low wear rate of contact wire is mainly
desired. To reduce the wear of contact wire, it is effective to use carbon as
contact strip material. Conventional carbon materials cannot cope with the speedup
of vehicles or the higher current load any more. It would be necessary to combine
metal and carbon material. This paper describes the results of investigating the
relation between several factors and wear properties of the metal/carbon composites.
