In doing a painting job under the conditions of closed spaces like the inside of
box girders, the measures preventing the explosion of solvents, which may be
volatilized from paints, should be taked. For the purpose of developing non-solvent
type paints, painting tests inside of box girders were carried out about 20 years ago.
As it is very important to evaluate the deteriorated paint films for the maintenance
of box giders, their states were investigated. From these results, it is found that
they do not much change from the initial state after the test painting. Therefore, it
can be judged that they possess excellent durability under above conditions of no
ultraviolet irradiation.
