Bearing Capacity of Actual Existing Roadbed

The standard design of roadbed at earth structures was enacted in 1968. However, the most of roadbeds at actual existing railways were constructed before 1968, so a bearing capacity of these roadbed isn't clear. In case of that the bearing capacity of the roadbed is small, ballast penetration into the roadbed and vibration of roadbed increase at train passing, so track maintenance work increases. Therefore, a bearing capacity of the roadbed is extremely important for reducing the amount of maintenance work. Then, we investigated and analyzed existing roadbed in order to make clear a bearing capacity of actual existing roadbed. The present paper describes outline of bearing capacity of actual existing roadbed based on investigation and analysis.
