Elemental Property of the Roadbed Reinforcement Material, GEOCELL

For reducing settlement or vibration of railway, suitable roadbed structure is necessary according to the railway structure or to the ground classification. For improvement of soft and weak roadbed under existing railway, the reinforcement material (called geocell in this report) that has 3-dimensional honeycomb structure is very effective. Railway roadbed must have enough rigidity to distribute train load and enough durability under the cyclic load. So, we conducted some elemental tests about the strength, the deformation and the durability of geocell. Then, we got results that are as follows. The geocell has enough durability under cyclic load that is three times as large as train load. The roadbed built with graded grain material (M-30), that is reinforced with geocell, has higher rigidity and strength than that with single grain material.
