Recently, it's an increasingly important problem how to harmonize a planned speedup of
Shinkansen with the evironment. Specially It's a key to successful speedup of Shinkansen
whether we can effectively reduce noise and vibration under high-speed running train.
Rail vibration is considered a major cause of whee/rail noise and vibration of structure.
As one of measures to lower noise and vibration due to whee/rail system we adopted resilient
wheels tentatively and performed field running tests in which maximum speed of 315km/h
was attained. This paper outlines the results of the tests.
