A Meanin of the term "riding comfort" of passenger train varies widely. Generally it is
said to mean vehicle vibration, but other factors, for example, cabin temperature or
seat comfortability should not be neglected. On this subject, relation between vehicle
vibration and passenger riding comfort cnstitute a main research item, and there are many
studies published on evaluation method for riding comfort. Recently this problem becomes
increasingly important because of today's needs for train speedup on curves. This paper
reviews the changes in approach to these studies and today's research status.
