In order to develop a welding method, which can be used for joining Mn steel crossing and standard carbon rail in the field, some welding methods usually available have been investigated. As a result, it is recognized that a manual arc welding with 16%Cr-16%Mn electrodes, which is based on the enclosed arc welding process, is fit for in practical application. In this paper, we report on the results of a few examinations for selecting the method, mechanical and metallugical properties of the enclosed arc welds, and the test results of the welds at about 100 million gross tons passed in the field.
