A Study of Aerodynamic Stability of Low Noise Pantograph

Reduction of noise generated around a pantograph is requisite
to reduction of whole wayside noise. For this purpose we
proposed a Low Noise Pantograph named PEGASUS. This pantograph
has aerodynamically smooth shape so as not to generate large
aerodynamic noise. The most difficulty at the development lies
in realization of aerodynamic stability. We contrived a
pantograph head supporting mechanism to get aerodynamic
stability, and confirmed its efficiency by some experiments.
This paper shows the performance of PEGASUS focusing its
aerodynamic stability.
