Prediction Analysis of Train-Induced Ground Vibrations Using
the Equivalent Excitation Force
Osamu YOSHIOKA
Train-induced ground vibrations produce complicated features
depending on various conditions proper for the considered
site. This paper proposes a new practical method to compute
the vibrations taking the local conditions into account
approximately. It is an important factor for the vibration
prediction analysis how to assume the excitation force. The
paper develops a method which makes use of the equivalent
excitation force estimated by vibrations measured at a
reference site. After formulating our method, we apply it to
the ground vibrations induced by the Shinkansen running on an
embankment. The case study shows not only the smooth
execution for appling the method but also the approximate
agreement of computed vibrations with measured ones.
