A Review of Methods to Locate Railway Noise Sources and to Control them

To obtain the methods to reduce railway noises, it is necessary to locate their
sources and to clarify the physical mechanisms of the noise generation. The
trials so far practiced to locate various Shinkansen noise sources and present
tendencies of locating methods are summarized. Numerous noise-countermeasures
have been applied to the original Shinkansen. The methods of reducing noise are
studied and developed still now, the main devices of which are outlined. We
also outlook the developments of noise analyzing methods and the possibilities
of noise-reduction.
