New Passenger Information System Using Contactless IC Cards

In is expected that contactless IC cards will bring about
several new features in railway ticketing system such as
automatic ticket checking machines. After much efforts of
research and developments, it is considered, there will be
no serious problem left in realizing the contactless IC card
with necessary functions for good performance. The area where
contactless IC card may be called a sort of revolution is not
restricted to ticketing system. In this article we propose new
applications such as a new method for calculating railway fare,
more sufficient user guidance systems and handy personal
information processing machines doubling the functions of
contactless IC cards.
