A field test passing the switch and crossing was done with test
vehicles changing the running speed and the wheel load balance.
The wheel vertical displacement from rail, the wheel/rail contact
forces in three directions and so on were measured as the continuous
values. We investigated the behavior of the wheelset and the relation
between some kinds of parameters and the wheel rise. This paper deals
with the results of this experiment and analysis in search of adeqate
evaluation methods of vehicle running safety. The wheel load balance
and the frictional coefficient between wheel and rail influence the
vehicle derailment. From the results of computer simulation, it was
found that the masses of both carbody and wheelsets also affect the
derailment.
