High-speed operation brings about a new problem of an aerodynamical
vibration of vehicle in tunnel section. Especially, a strong vibration
appears at the tail car of train. The given track condition of
Sanyo-Shinkansen Line with about 50% of it in tunnel, a semi-active
suspension system has been developed and tested.
As the result, the following have been certified;
(1) The riding quality of lateral direction can be improved about 30%.
(2) This system does not spoil operations safety.
In order to apply this system to a new type Shinkansen train called
500 series which will be operated 300km/h of maximum operating speed,
JR-West and RTRI are doing its endurance test.
