For improvement of riding comfort in high speed curving of Shinkansen
vehicle, a new tilting system has been developed. This system includes a
hydraulic system, and two "tilting cylinders" each under air spring, one
"connecting cylinder" between the tilting cylinders, and one "control
cylinder" integrated into the connecting cylinder in each bogie. Tilting
movement is controlled by computercontrolled servo valve. Bench test for
one car model was carried out in order to confirm the fundamental function
of this system. It has been clarified that its operating characteristics
and response are fine. It is concluded that this system is feasible and
it has good prospects of being practically realized.
