A Study on Design Method of Foundation under Large-Size Earthquakes

In this paper the authors focus on design method of foundation during
large-size earthquakes. To define the behavior and supporting mechanism
of foundation, lateral loading tests of models covering large-displacement
are performed and analyzed. As a result, it is found that a simple calculation
method of foundation which assumes elasto-plastic property of coeffecients of
subgrade reaction can precisely simulate the envelope curves of load-displacement
curves of the test results under large-displacement. The applicability of designing
foundation by equivalent energy method is discussed.
