Changes and a Future Perspective on Foundation Design Method

Foundation Design Standard for railway structures has been under revision on occasion of the limit state design method being adopted to railway superstructure in 1991.

In the limit state design method a large deformation in plastic domain should be considerd as the seisemic force increases.

Many experiments have been carried out for establishment of the limit state design method for foundation considering large deformation.

This paper reviews the present state of foundation design method and gives a future perspective.
