It is necessary to use a high-strength and high-conductivity contact wire
for train speedup on Shinkansen. Cu-Cr-Zr alloy supposed to possess those
characteristics has been examined in laboratory wear test under the condition
of Fe-base sintered alloy strip sliding against it in current collection.
The results show that Cu-Cr-Zr wire has better wear characteristics than
conventional Cu and Cu-Sn alloy wires, and the low wear rate of Cu-Cr-Zr
wire comes from its high recrystallization temperature.
