The Ladder Sleeper has been developed to minimize the maintenance cost only by replacing crossties in the conventional ballasted track. It has been advanced also aiming to build a low-cost and environmentally friendly non-ballasted track on new lines. The limit state design method for the Ladder Sleeper was studied taking the ballasted track, which requires various examinations on the supporting conditions, as an object. The quasi-static wheel load was mainly applied as the design load. The member forces of longitudinal beam and connectors were evaluated using the results of structural analysis and vehicle running tests.
