Field Test of the Intelligent Speed Control by CARAT

Sinse 1988 we had developed CARAT(Computer And Radio Aided Train control system)to realize the moving block by computer control and radio communication.With a real control test of the Joetsu Shinkansen line pilot systems of CARAT in December 1995,we have finished a four-year test program and it's functional refinement.The functioning of the safety speed control and the running speed control based on data transmitted from the ground and the reliability and safety of the onboard system were confirmed under normal working of the onboard system and under a braking output generated by a fault of this system.We describe the general concept of speed control for the moving block system,the functions characterizing the pilot system and results of the real control test.
