On the new Shinkansen lines which are authorized for building or under consideration, there is a concern about serious accidents such as derailment of narrow gauge train when high speed Shinkansen trains and narrow gauge ones run side by side.In this case the clearance disorder alarm system will be installed, but with the conventional system using mechanical switches there are some disadvantages such as not being able to fix a clearance disorder point.Authors have developed new clearance disorder alarm system using angle sensors which are composed of a magnet and a transducer using Hall effect. This system is able to detect the clearance disorder quickly and to fix the accident point to an accuracy of 10m.In this paper, first, the construction and function of this system are explained.Next, the performance of angle sensors and results of their field tests are reported.
