A large sewage disposal plant is being constructed on a very soft ground in Hikone. JR Tokaido line runs near this site. The plant is built by open-cut method. As the work progresses, the JR line embankment is likely to the displacement. Two possible causes for the displacement are conceivable: a sinking of the underground water table and a releasing of stresses concentrated at the site. In this paper we describe three F.E.M analyses we intend to execute for the purpose of predicting the displacement: two-dimensional cross-section seepage analysis; quasi three-dimensional seepage analysis; and soil/water elasto-visco plastic deformation analysis.
