We have developed a new method for repairing a railway track irregularity with heavy mechanical machines. Levelling and lining operations in these machines are based on the so called 3-point measuring system with asymmetric chord spacing.
A new repairing method operates in the same way as an absolute reference frame method except that it does not require an extra measurement of the actual track geometry and, instead of it, utilizes a restored waveform of track irregularity. A restored waveform of track irregularity is easily obtained by the inverse filtering operation from the measured data by a 3-point measuring system.
In this paper we describe the application of the new repairing method to the practical work and its results. It has been applied to the lining work which corrects a track irregularity of alignment on the curved track in the field in East Japan Railway Company. As expected, very good results has been obtained.
