A Lateral Semi-Active Suspension of Tilting Train

For improving ride quality of train, a lateral semi-active suspension has been developed and brought up to a running test. Typical tilting train of Japan has too small damping in its tilting mechanism to apply this semi-active suspension system.
To make an effective semi-active suspension, a changeable tilting damper has been developed and tested with semi-active suspension. As the result, the following are verified:
(1) A changeable tilting damper improves the effect of semi-active suspension on tilting train.
(2) When train is running on curve, semi-active suspension assures a good performance.
(3) Centrifugal acceleration can be canceled by a filtering process and moving average method.
