For the purpose of realizing less-congested urban commuter transportation and shorter travel time, RTRI started R&D for building a comprehensive urban transportation system. As for specific technological factors, we are developing station facilities enabling smooth flow of passengers, transport demand simulation system with high accuracy, high-speed acceleration and deceleration vehicles, improved bogie structures, and improved signaling systems. We will advance these R&D within a period from fiscal 1995 to fiscal 1999, in closer cooperation with the JR companies.
