Study on Very Close Twin Shield Tunnel Segment Design Methods

@When twin single-track railway shield tunnels are planned in urban areas, the total width of the construction will have to be decreased and very close location of the shield tunnels will have to be chosen. In that case, acting earth pressure will be complicated. To evaluate this influence of the adjacent tunnel excavation, three trial design methods for the tunnels are discussed in this paper. Consequently, method of the two-ring beam-spring model calculation with the load obtained from two-dimensional plain strain finite element method showed the most reliable calculation outputs.
