In RTRI, a Total Office Automation system has been operated since 1990 supporting the productivity improvement of processing in research development. The system was composed of a workstation as the server and over 600 client personal computers linked to it. At the end of 1996 we have re-constructed the OA system using Personal Computers as the server. We connected 7 personal servers using a switching hub through which servers exchange data. The new system is designed on the concept of a 3 tier server-client information model. The function in each tier is developed through OLE automation. Then we can change the system configuration very flexibly according to the system performance. In this paper, we give an outline of the new system specially the configuration of the system using personal computers as the server and its performance.
