Two years ago, we developed a lightweight wheel-mount direct drive traction motor using the permanent magnet. The aim to develop this motor is to achieve low noise, low maintenance and high efficiency. To reduce the weight, we use high performance permanent magnet for the field of motors. In this case, traction motor is an unsprung mass, so its robustness is doubtful. This time we have carried out its shock endurance test to 1 million shocks. We conclude these motors can be called robust enough.
