In JAPAN, No.38 Turnout which was laid on NAGANO SHINKANSEN is the first case of it applied to the branch side of turnout for operation at 160 km/h speed. This turnout has been developed jointly by Japan Railway Construction Public Corporation, Railway Technical Research Institute and JR East. This paper traces the technological development of No.38 Turnout.
