A Study on the Compaction Control of Embankments to Receive Train Loads

Katsumi MURAMOTO, Etsuo SEKINE

The embankment for maintenanceless railroads on soil structures must preferably be built with good soil material such as gravel or sand. Whereas compaction work is currently managed with the K30 value that is measured by the plate loading test defined in Japan Industrial Standards, K30 values of gravel and sand are often larger than the actual degree of settlement. Therefore, we built three actual scale maintenanceless railroad models with different compaction grades of gravel subgrade, and compared and studied the settlement of these three models under a train-level cyclic load.
