Earth structures involve several problems concerning the stability and settlement compared with concrete structures but the cost of construction is low. In recent years, requirements for the performance of earth structure are strict. This paper describes the history of standards, outline of recent researches and subjects for earth structures in the future. Part of this paper has already been reported in RTRI report vol.9 No.7.
