Development of Hollow Fiber Dryer for Railway Rolling Stock

Izumi HASEGAWA

We have developed a dryer composed of a new material, or a hollow fiber for railway rolling stock. The new dryer makes use of a characteristic of vapor permeability of a macromolecule membrane. As this system has simple construction, small size and light weight, it best fits railway rolling stock. A durability test was carried out for a year on a TOKYU CORPORATION's EMU on the Setagaya line. Relative humidity inside piping is maintained below 20% throughout four seasons, and there has been no drain or trouble caused by humidity. This system features low costs and maintenance free characteristics, so it will replace ordinary dryers composed of adsorbent.
