A Study on Comprehensive Safety Assessment Indices for Railway Transportation

Hisaji FUKUDA

Railways composes huge public transportation system, for which safety has a top priority Safety assessment has often been performed in the fields of train derailment and crossing, but little been done comprehensively. We propose a comprehensive safety assessment method for effective and efficient safety management. This paper describes accident occurrence model, concept of prediction, comprehensive safety assessment indices by an AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) model and safety diagnosis. These methods are applied to an assessment system in the safety management supporting system Ver.3.5 on PC-Windows. It is available for short-term prediction and periodic safety diagnosis combined with an accident database.
