After the Hyogoken-Nanbu earthquake which caused serious damage to railway structures, earthquake-resistant design tends to consider large earthquake power. On this account, pile foundation supporting bridge girders and bridge abutments or bridge piers need to secure safety for large external force with the inertia power of structure. In designing pile foundation, it is rational to evaluate the ductility of members for pile bodies. In order to avoid overcrowded re-bars, therefore, we proposed that the high-strength re-bars for shear reinforcement be used for pile foundation and conducted cyclic loading tests for model pile bodies. As a result of these tests, we confirmed that the pile with high strength re-bars for shear reinforcement had enough strength and ductility.
